No Need for the Conversion into US Dollars for Nationality-Related Applications Filed abroad

For the convenience of applicants who apply abroad for nationality applications, the Ministry of the Interior promulgated the amendment of “Charge Standards of Nationality Fees” on March 21st. According to the old rules, they can only m ake the payments in US Dollars or Japanese Yen before filing their applicationsat the Taiwan’s foreign representative offices. Now when applying for deprival of nationality, issuance or replacement of citizenship certificate, re-issuingnationality permit, applicants are allowed to directly make the payment with the local currencies and save the trouble of convert into US dollars. Applicants can dramatically save the inconvenience and trouble to travel to banks or exchange stops. Furthermore, to reflect the floating exchange rate, this amendment at the same time reviews the amounts of payment. For applications of loss of nationality filed abroad, the amount will be collected from USD47 to USD50; for Nationality Certificate issuing or renewal or re-issuance Nationality permit, the amount will go up from USD41 to USD45. Additionally, to incorporate with money laundering operations and to consider practical effectiveness, the requirement to pay with Japanese Yen or clean bills is also cancelled.
